ACE- R&D: An Immersive experience with Haptics
About This Demo
This short demo presents our initial prototype, developed with support from BFI doc Society R&D fund. The audio you hear is a short sample from one of our contributor testimonies, describing the lived experience of endometriosis. The demo shows our early exploration of the environments where these stories will eventually reside, testing the atmospheric tone and spatial language of the world we are building. As outlined in our application, the experience will illustrate each contributor's story through a 3D morphable object that shifts and transforms giving visual form to the physical sensations and emotional weight of their words. This morphing technique is the next phase of development; what this demo captures is the foundation upon which it will be layered

Process and Influences
This moodboard shows exploration of clay forms we aim to evoke in the final piece.

Our use of haptics is inspired by work from Camille Baker (Mammary Mountain), which masterfully uses VR and haptics to convey the visceral experience of illness. For our garment design, we look to projects like the Haptic Corset, presented on inter her: its embedded vibration motors, which pulse in response to the virtual realm, and its use of patterns mirroring the VR environment, are key models for our own haptics.
